March begins as February ends; no dramatic change in the weather. The light continues to climb and playing in the snow becomes much more enjoyable. By now the snow is an old friend, growing grey and muddy, but redeeming itself with every fresh snow shower – coated in beauty again. Gary traveled all over the state. Xander and I stayed behind and explored Alaska in March. In mid-April, the melt started (which is called breakup in Alaska), and everything began to burst with life.
Some of the photos are mine. You can tell which ones because they’re laughably pedestrian. Gary’s photography really started to flourish around this time – I think you’ll see what I mean. I fell deep in love with Alaska in March and April; even in the muck and the mud of the melting snow. Hope you enjoy these.
