Huddled. Skin to skin we clung to each other as the tiger-monster howled around us and perfect spheres of ice pounded the roof. We were lucky. We live in the middle of the hills and our creek rose, and bubbled over, and pushed red clay towards us. After what felt like days, it fell back and retreated to the mouth of the woods.  The tiger-monster didn’t tear our walls away; no one was taken to Oz. We were lucky.

~ my deepest prayers to those affected by the tornadoes on Wednesday. It was scary here in E. TN, and it felt like the storms would last forever. We were spared, in every way.
