someone else

It’s as though there is a different me, just waiting around the corner of next week. Someone who is focused, calm, funny without that off-putting sprinkle of mania.

The rains brought in much cooler temperatures; a preview of autumn. I like summer fine but the heat makes me feel sleepy and stupid, except when we go swimming, and then I feel tanned and exotic and blissful.

  1. For some reason, I was reminded of the great Edna St. Vincent Millay when I read this prose poem, particularly the last line. I thought about that terrific line: “We were very tired, we were very merry/We had gone back and forth all night on the ferry.”

  2. She was so lovely. I have to admit that I had not heard of her (or maybe I had and forgot). Elizabeth, every single time you visit me here or I read your words I learn so much…you are such a brilliant, beautiful woman! xoxo

  3. I have that other me waiting around the corner, as well. And I always associate her with cooler temperatures and the productivity I associate with school starting.

"... all my lovers were there with me, all my past and futures."
