war is over

Recovering addicts are discouraged, initially, from dating anyone new during their early recovery. They’re also often discouraged from dating other recovering addicts.

I don’t agree. If you fall in love with another recovering addict, you’ll rarely have to explain yourself. They’ll understand why you sometimes frown and retreat into quiet. They’ll also understand why you’re so often filled with an immense joy for the simplest things: a sunset, a perfect flower, the perfect green of grass. They’ll understand why you feel so giddy just be to be here. You didn’t succeed in drowning yourself. Something pulled you up out of the wreck that you once were. You can both be grateful that the war is over.
